I have entitled this blog "Renaissance Christian Woman" because I am a Christian woman who has a passion for art, literature, history and learning. In addition, the Renaissance is one my favorite historical periods to study. As a writer, artist, actress, singer and one who continues to aspire to knew achievements and disciplines, I hope to one day be a modern "renaissance" woman, myself. :)
Secondly, as a Christian, it breaks my heart that the arts have often been neglected or rejected within the Church and various sects of Christianity during the past several hundred years. As a Christian, I believe that God is the author of all creativity; therefore, our talents and abilities are endowed and encouraged by Him. It is exciting to see Christians making bold moves to reclaim the arts and sciences for God, whether it be as an evangelical tool, worship medium or, simply, personal expression.
Finally, I want to remove the intimidating and exclusive aura that surrounds the sentiment of one being a renaissance man or woman. In my opinion, a true modern renaissance christian woman can be a mother who studies and learns and trains her children whether through homeschooling or after-school homework. She can be a woman who has a career while balancing home-life or a woman who is working on her education while working a job.
The main criteria by my estimation is that a modern christian renaissance woman is that she seeks to better herself through the study and practice of Scripture, seeks out knowledge as God gave her the capability, engages in and supports the arts (be it by appreciation or participation) and that she never ceases to explore and experience the world around her given by God.
If this sounds like the kind of woman you would like to be, then please join me on my journey. Someday, I hope to be live up the title, too. :)
